There are four main types of buses for the journey to Pokhara: tourist buses, local buses, microbuses, and luxury buses. The bus journey typically takes approximately 7 hours, with a break for breakfast during the trip.
Tourist Buses
Tourist buses depart from near Thamel, specifically from Shorhhakhutte. It's important to note that Shorhhakhutte is a pickup location, not a bus station. To purchase tickets for tourist buses, it's recommended to contact travel agencies in the Thamel area or buy them online. Some bus companies also sell tickets online, though payment methods may vary.
There are two types of tourist buses departing at 7:00 AM, and passengers are advised to arrive by 6:30 AM. The standard tourist bus charges between USD 10.00 and USD 14.00, inclusive of service charges. For a more luxurious experience, travelers can opt for the sofa seat bus, available from companies like BABA ADVENTURE, SWIFT HOLIDAY, and Nepal Traveler. Prices for the sofa seat bus start from USD 16.00 to USD 18.00.
Local Buses
Local buses to Pokhara are available throughout the day from Kathmandu's main bus stations, Gongabu and Kalanki. The preferred choice is Gongabu Bus Park, where ticket counters offer departures from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. It's advisable to choose morning departures for better seat options. Prices for local buses to Pokhara are around NPR 1000.00.
Microbuses
Microbuses, resembling Hiace vans with 16 to 18 seats, are another option for travel to Pokhara. Available at Gongabu and Kalanki, these microbuses depart from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and then again from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Similar to local buses, microbus tickets cost approximately NPR 1000.00.
