1 DAY HIKING NAMOBUDDHA

Warm greetings from Kumari Boutique Hotel.

Welcome to the vibrant experience of day hiking in the serene landscapes surrounding Kathmandu! Following our previous blog on Nagarkot, Changgunarayan, and Bhaktapur, we're thrilled to introduce yet another enriching day hike. This expedition combines encounters with nature, Buddhist culture, the Tamang community, and the Newar community, offering a diverse array of experiences within a single day.

Commencing around 8:00 to 9:00 am from Kathmandu, your journey begins with a drive to Kavre Bhanjyan, the starting point for the hike to Namobuddha. Upon arrival, your driver will drop you at Kavre Bhanjyang, heading to Panauti village to await your return. Embarking on this trail, expect a 2.5-hour walk from Kavre Bhanjyang to Namobuddha. Along the way, be enchanted by the breathtaking mountain panoramas and the quaint Tamang community villages. Don't miss the chance to pause at local tea shops, indulging in authentic Nepali treats like Raksi (homemade whisky) and Chhang (rice beer) available at the local wine shops, called Bhattis.

As you reach Namobuddha monastery, be captivated by its serene aura. Witness Buddhist monks amidst their rituals and teachings, providing an immersive experience of Buddhism. If you arrive before noon, catch a glimpse of the monks chanting Buddhist mantras, a truly spiritual encounter. The monastery's small café offers a vegetarian lunch with a stunning view, ensuring a healthy and delightful meal. While non-vegetarian options are available at local restaurants, we recommend savouring the monastery's offerings for freshness and quality.

Post lunch, embark on a 3-hour hike to Panauti village, traversing through picturesque landscapes adorned with small houses and vibrant rice and vegetable fields. Witness Nepali farmers dedicatedly tending to their fields, providing an insightful peek into their way of life. The trail, once dusty, now boasts a clean blacktop road, granting you fresh air and minimal traffic, offering a peaceful trekking experience.

Panauti village awaits with its rich history and cultural heritage. Recognized as a UNESCO tentative site, this ancient town nestled at the confluence of Rosi and Punyamati rivers holds immense significance in Nepali history. Explore its array of Buddhist and Hindu monuments, soaking in medieval charm and spiritual ambience.

As you conclude your exploration, seek your driver and head back to your destination, cherishing the memories of this enriching day hike. Here are a few tips for your journey:

  • You can opt for a guided tour, ensuring comprehensive insights into the sites visited.
  • Arrange transportation beforehand through your hotel, or travel agency, or negotiate with local taxis for a more budget-friendly option.
  • Essential items like water, energy bars, comfortable sports shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing, especially during the rainy season, are recommended.

Thank you for considering the insights provided by Kumari Boutique Hotel. We hope this information enhances your day hike experience near Kathmandu, offering a delightful blend of culture, spirituality, and natural beauty.

Warm regards,

Pramod
